Announcement Date: January 18th, 2024

Attention Valued Affordable Connectivity Client:

The Hoopa Valley Public Utilities District’s broadband division, Acorn Wireless, has been proud to be an approved provider through the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP).

Unless a Congressional allocation is extended, the funding for ACP will be exhausted by April 2024. In accordance with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Wind-Down Timeline, this letter will serve as your First Notice that ACPs last month to fully reimburse providers for the ACP benefits provided to enrolled households is April 2024.  If no further programmatic funding is allocated, HVPUD (Acorn Wireless) will no longer be able to provide discounts to enrolled households.

What does this mean for your household?

Beginning April 1, 2024, all ACP clients will no longer be receiving the $75.00 credit that they have been receiving through ACP towards their bill.  Current ACP clients will then be responsible for monthly internet bills, however there are a couple options for you.

Option #1: Option 1 means you are choosing to stay with your current Premium Internet Plan which is  $75.00 per month.  Billing starts in April 2024.

Option #2: Option 2 means you are choosing the Basic Internet Plan which is  $40.00 per month.  This plan is for those with low internet demand. Billing starts in April 2024.

Option #3: Option 3 means you will no longer receive internet service starting April 2024. You will however be responsible for any balance due prior to becoming an ACP client. This balance will be transferred to your HVPUD water account, if applicable.

HVPUD requests that you provide a required response no later than March 1, 2024.  If we do not hear from you by that date, your account status will remain at the same rate and you will be responsible for paying the entirety of your monthly bill on an ongoing basis.

HVPUD is dedicated to providing ACP recipients an orderly transition out of the program and we are committed to keeping as many ACP households as possible connected to wireless service after the end of the program.

While we wait to see if Congress will approve additional funding for ACP, we are looking into alternate sources that may help with your internet bill.  Any new information we receive about ACP or other funding sources we will let you know.  Please see attached form, sign and return as soon as possible to HVPUD main office. Any additional questions please reach out to our Digital Navigator at (530)625-6300 or email at nav@hoopavalleypud.com.
